Fe2O3/Y2O3 metal oxide catalysts on different supports have been developed for the removal of catalytic topping atmosphere residue. All catalysts have been prepared by the sol-gel citrate method where citric acid was used as a complexing agent. Alumina and halloysite were used as catalyst supports due to their high surface areas. The prepared samples were structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements and by scanning electron microscopy techniques. X-ray diffraction results for the catalysts were as follows: Fe2O3/Y2O3/Al2O3(Al3Fe2O12Y3) and Fe2O3/Y2O3/Halloysite (Al2Fe3O12Y3, O2Si, Al4.52O9.74Si1.48). Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surfaces were in the range of 23-31 m2/g for Fe2O3/Y2O3/Al2O3 and 1-9 m2/g for Fe2O3/Y2O3/Halloysite.
