This study presents the results of the synthesis of silver chloride nanoparticles dispersed within ammonium nitrate matrix via displacement mechanochemical reaction NH4Cl + AgNO3 + zNH4NO3 = (z+1)NH4NO3 + AgCl at z = z1= 7.22 and z = z2= 3.64. The intermediate compound, NH4Ag(NO3)2, was identified after mechanochemical processing of studied system. Use of simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry provide a new means for preparing silver chloride nanoparticles in their free form: by thermal treatment.
